One of the greatest parts of my job is being able to continually document your story. I don’t want to just press the shutter, create some images, send them off to you and never hear from you again. I want to be YOUR person… when good news happens, I am one of the first people you contact in order to document these moments.
When we work together, it’s a complete experience. We spend time getting to know one another, I hear about what is important to YOU. We work together to create the art that MOST represents who you are as a family.. from the location, to the wardrobe to the emotive storytelling. I want you to walk away confident that we captured who you are just as you are. I want to freeze these moments forever… the intimate gazes, the goosebumps on your arms as your partner whispers in your ear, these quiet moments before baby arrives. You feel your sweet baby squirm inside of you, how he reacts to your touch, to your voice… this little human knows you before they have even met you.
When you begin to labour, you know that I will catch the intimate touches and the love-filled strength while you and your partner work together to bring your baby into this world. I will document that last push and your baby being placed on your chest. You will breathe out a sigh of relief as you celebrate the biggest joy of your life. You and your partner get to embrace and cry together and not worry that a single moment will be missed…. from touching noses, to memorizing every square inch of your new baby, to the newborn exam. Your partner will get their moment as well, snuggling with baby skin to skin. NOTHING is missed. Siblings will join, reactions documented. Your birth story is YOUR story…. one you will tell your child until the end of time and what better what to share this story than sharing exactly how love-filled that day was? DOCUMENT THIS!!! You think you will remember it all.. but you won’t. You think your partner will capture these moments, but let’s keep them present with you and babe! Let someone who knows birth, knows you and is a professional do the work. Let this moment sink in. Let someone else take care of you.
You then bring your baby home… Your teeny tiny baby only stays teeny tiny for so long! DOCUMENT THIS! Those itty bitty baby toes, the sleepy grins and milk dripping out of the corners of their mouth. Your partner drapes your baby so perfectly over their forearm to relieve an upset tummy. Don’t forget the peach fuzz on their bodies, their swollen umbilical cord. The pure excitement of siblings as they hold their brother or sister in their arms… there is so much they get to show these tiny humans! How about the way they sound as they are gulping their milk or the way their hands just magically grasp your fingers and hold on so tight. DOCUMENT THESE MOMENTS!!! They are everything. You will never regret having these memories.
Before you know it, your baby awkwardly starts walking and can call out your name. You are their safe place. They cry to you for comfort and no one on the planet can make them laugh the way you can! You are their EVERYTHING. DOCUMENT THIS!
These little ones grow so quickly and it can be such a blur…
After every session, we reveal your images together, over tea (or wine depending on the time of day 😉 and snacks. YOU get to decide on the art you want for your home… Why hide all your beautiful images in “the cloud”?? These should be showcased on your walls or in a beautiful heirloom album. Digitals are great for preservation of course, but I want to see your images printed on gorgeous fine art papers and I want to feel the prints in my fingertips! We have all been there… we have all said we will create our own albums, but LIFE HAPPENS and then all of a sudden you have no pictures to embarrass your son on his first date 😉
What is so incredibly special for my clients is not ONLY knowing that I am there to capture it all.. but they know what to expect, they know I will take care of them and create the memories that THEY want to keep. They feel comfortable with me as we have gotten to know one another. They VALUE their memories captured. This is not a one time experience where I show up, click and you never see me again. I am a part of your story.
